Dear Esther Dev Collaborating with Frictional to Make Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs
It's official: Amnesia creator Frictional and Dear Esther master of scaremonies thechineseroom are joining forces to form an indie horror super group. The best part? They hope to have the Amnesia spin-off out the door before Halloween, because, you know, spiders, ghost sounds, and things. But you know what's even more frightening than all of those immortal scions of fear? Ignorance. So read on for more details.
Speaking with Joystiq, Dear Esther writer Dan Pinchbeck explained the Amnesia not-quite-a-sequel.
"It's not a direct sequel, in terms of it doesn't follow on from the story of Amnesia. It doesn't involve the same characters, [but it's set in the same] alternate history and set in the same universe."
A Machine for Pigs, then, tells the sordid tale of "wealthy industrialist" Oswald Mandus, who awakes from a months-long magical fever coma to the roar of a probably not-so-nice machine that haunted his nightmares. I imagine it doesn't have anything to do with pigs in the literal sense, but who knows? Perhaps it churns out the world's most perfectly sizzled bacon -- in exchange for your soul.
Fortunately, the wait for more info shouldn't be too excruciating, as a big reveal is apparently just around the corner. Kind of like ALL YOUR GREATEST FEARS.
